Quintana, pp. Entierros humanos en el sitio El Guanaco. AAS Revista 10 1 : 39— Revista USP 44 2 : — Characteristic animals of the Pampas include foxes, skunks, small herds of guanaco, viscachas, bush dogs, and many bird species related to the sparrows, hawks, and waterfowl of the North American prairies. The region has been transformed since the middle of the 19th century. The Pampas of South America are a grassland biome.
They are flat, fertile plains that covers an area of , sq. It has a depth of between 12 and 30 meters and a width of between 1 and 2 km. Central Argentina boasts a successful agricultural business, with crops grown on the Pampas south and west of Buenos Aires. Much of the area is also used for cattle, and more recently, to cultivate vineyards in the Buenos Aires wine region.
The area is also used for farming honey using European honeybees. The ecoregion is considered endangered and is regarded as a high priority conservation area at the regional scale. The Humid Pampas occupy the plains in the east of Argentina, taking up most of the province of Buenos Aires. The total area of the Pampas planted in sorghum and soybeans has grown since to rank just behind that of wheat and corn.
These crops also serve primarily as livestock feed and are valuable for export. Another crop of the northern Pampas is flax. If it comes down to size, the Argentine Patagonia is a winner.
Humid Pampas. Semiarid Pampas. The Pampas are bounded by the drier Argentine espinal grasslands, which form a semicircle around the north, west, and south of the Humid Pampas.
The climate is generally temperate, gradually giving way to a more subtropical climate in the north and to a semiarid climate on the western fringes. Precipitation ranges from to 1, mm 23 to 47 in that is more or less evenly distributed through the year, making the soils appropriate for agriculture.
Winters are generally mild, but cold waves still occur.
