Universal has announced that a new Harry Potter roller coaster, family-friendly though still thrilling, will open in I think this is a fantastic coaster. I rode it four times in a row on DEC When it is running smoothly--and it was that day--there's not a better coaster in the parks.
The workers and many riders will tell you that the blue coaster has more inversions and the red one is faster. A quick look at the Roller Coaster Database will tell you that they both the the same number of inversions 5 though they are different types, and that the Chinese Fireball goes 60 mph, while the Hungarian Horntail runs up to 55 mph. The second-best coaster in Florida, imho.
Sheikra is tops on my list. I absolutely loved this ride and highly recomend it. I went on the blue side first after being told it wasnt quite as intense as the red. I was so excited after the first ride i almost missed the shortcut back to re-ride.
At the time, Dueling Dragons had one of best themed queues in Orlando. Due to the high expectations Universal had for the coasters, and anticipating long waits, the queue length was a little over a half-a-mile long. Guests would learn the story of the castle and the battle of the dragons as they traversed the decrepit corridors full of skeletons and fallen knights.
As guests entered the castle, they would be introduced to the story by Merlin using an enchanted stained glass window; in one of the most unique displays and presentations of a pre-show of its time. First, guests would experience those who suffered at the fate of Pyrock, finding the charred, molten remains of knights who were unsuccessful.
The next room showed the knights who fell to Blizzrock, frozen in place and covered in vast amounts of ice. The queue is what set Dueling Dragons apart from any other coaster, and many considered it to be an attraction itself. It was such a novel idea of its time to create a queue so elaborate and extensive for a coaster, which is what made Dueling Dragons unique and beloved by and fans.
Both tracks were highly-rated among coaster enthusiasts, but the queue established the attraction as something special. When the Wizarding World of Harry Potter was announced and plans were revealed for a re-theme of Dueling Dragons, fans were worried what made the attraction special would be lost. When the re-theme was complete and the Wizarding World opened in , the coaster was the same, but the experience was lost.
Gone were many of the elements that made the queue so revered. There was a realization for many fans that the ride was on borrowed time. By , the ride lost the dueling aspect, its key element, when Universal Orlando had to stop it due to precautionary safety concerns.
For fans, the loss of what made the coaster ride itself unique cemented that its closure was an inevitability in their minds. Both are the same lenth and take the same amount of time to run their course. Both have 5 inversions.
Fire in 5 seperate elements, Ice in 3 seperate elements and one double one. I don't like the way those things feel. From Mark Walker Posted May 13, at PM I'll be the first to say I rate them both the same, and both sides are on my top ten attractions list.
Dueling Dragons is my favourite coaster coasters? Although the ice dragon has my favorite inversion a zero G roll , fire is still better with the two immelmans.
