I, for one, still struggle to watch the scene because like most fans of Skins , witnessing the harrowing, horror movie-like death of a favourite character felt, well, wrong. Of course, the show has covered death before—my heart still hurts from Chris' haemorrhage in the show's first generation. But since then, there has never been such an unnecessarily, violent end to a character.

You see, the tragic way in which Chris died made more sense. While, yes, it still left us in a puddle of tears, it wasn't unexplained and unrealistic like Freddie's was. Chris had been in the hospital days before after experiencing a subarachnoid haemorrhage, the same hereditary condition his brother died from.

But it wasn't until he returned home with Cassie, that he suffered another episode that proved to be fatal. In Freddie's case, his death came at the hands of an obsessed doctor, which is weird enough already, no?

And better yet, the scene itself was far less realistic than Chris', and looked as if it had been pulled straight from a bad, slasher film. But what did make Freddie's death more horrifying was that we never actually see his final moments. Seriously, who didn't have nightmares after hearing his cries for help, the thud and then hearing silence? Because I sure did. Better yet, after the love of Effy's life dies, she barely mentions another word about him.

Episodes upon episodes of courtship leading to their relationship—I still re-watch that lake scene far too often—but after he dies out of the blue, nothing. And all these body image problems link nicely into her really big secret: you see, it turns out that Mini…is a virgin.
