Closed loop. It is all about the order you introduce the fish, least to most aggressive. Really depends on tank size and time placed. Placing them together toward the end of fish population can be helpfull. And 1 tang for every 75 gallon tank maybe a little smaller for best results. Also haveing lots of good spots for each fish to call home.
Overhangs or open cave or cubbies helps. I have one tang in my g kole. I would love to add a second, but am fearful. Looking forward to this thread. Originally Posted by pledosophy. I also have a foxface, mystery wrasse, pair of clowns, file fish, and a bi color blenny. I am feeding 5 to 7 cubes of food a day. As stated size of the tank and time when they are put in are huge factors but every fish is different. A buddy of mine has a and has two hippos and 2 yellows and all were added at different times with no problems. But then he added two purple tangs, the same size and the same time and the one was a pain. He wouldnt leave the other purple alone, he started going after the larger hippo and pretty much anybody that got close to him.
He had to go, which wasnt fun to try and get a fish out of that tank with as much rock a he had. Smallest was the sailfin at about10", largest was the vlamangi at 14". I got rid of the sailfin and vlamangi and added 3 yellows, a blue hippo and a purple. The naso's were pushing 12" while the others were much smaller. I have some concerns. I do not remeber the rule of thumb as how many inches of fish per gallon of water, but I am afraid that is to much fish.
We will also have 2 pair of percs and later down the line a blenny or goby. We will get these when they are small a couple of inches and introduce the orange, lipstick, and sailfin into the tank together. The black tang is already at the LFS. The Black tang is about an inch or two right now. The LFS says it should be alright, but some people will just say that. The guy who told me this, I really trust what he says and he seems to be very knowledgeable and has been in the fish industry for years.
What do you guys think? Craig Manoukian Well-Known Member. BoomerD Well-Known Member. The thread Craig posted to is great! If you're going to mix tangs, try for 1 out of each genus. Even then there might be a bit of aggression depending on which was added first, all at once would be the best option but in a , there will be lots of room, and should not get too bad.
You might consider adding a Kole or yellow-eyed tang Great algae grazers. One of the busiest fish I've ever kept. Not the most colorful, but constantly looking for a speck of algae it might have missed. Tangs do not get along with other tangs which are the same body shape so you are going to run into problems with those choices.

As long as you dont overfeed, and there are several pieces of vegetation readily available, I think they would be fine. JavaScript is disabled. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding.
